just not good

I ran over Bug's new bike. The one he got two weeks ago for his birthday. The one he'd needed badly because his old bike was so small for him. The one he could have parked in the driveway, in the yard, or- put away in the garage. The one he left directly behind my car. The frame is bent. There is no chance of repairing it.

  1. Oh, no! I'm so sorry! I ran over AJ's tricycle once, destroying one of the wheels. It was totally his fault, but it's hard to blame it on a kid who rides a tricycle. How's he taking it?

  2. He was extremely humbled, having been warned a week ago when a friend did the same thing to me with less dire consequences. There were no tears and almost no reaction other than a sharp intake of breath and the question "Is it wrecked?" Clearly he knows it was his fault, so I'm trying to be gentle. We'll look on craig's list for something newish.

  3. Oh, tough lesson. Necessary, perhaps ... well, necessary, evidently, but still. Tough one. Good on you for not replacing it with an identical brand-new one. (That too is tough, I'll bet.)
