When I moved from the Midwest to the South, I was fascinated by winter pansies. I lived in apartments for many years as I finished up school and started teaching in Atlanta. But I filled pots with flowers and placed them on all the steps on the way up to my home.

This has been something I've said for years. We love our house, really we do. But it would be so nice to just have that little bit more space, that it-can-get-messy space, that "sure we can get a foos ball table" space, that guest bedroom space, that workshop space.

They'd chosen their costumes in plenty of time.  My parents helped put them together with a good bit of cardboard this year.  The yellow "cheese" is a thrift shop drapery.  The Lego head is made from a bucket, covered with paper and painted.

But!  I made him great bat wings and he looked the part and was pleased.

The 13" tile for the floor is on the bottom (on top of a distracting random throw rug). There is a "closed fracture of the supracondylar humerus."  In English, this means that he broke his left arm in the top bone somewhere right at the elbow. He was simply running around on the church playground and fell.

They didn't offer a water safe cast, so we've got to struggle through showers again. I have primarily shade. The tree-cutting has brought a bit more sun to my front yard, encouraging the beauty berry bushes I moved, as well as the daisies, which have flourished this year.

Kids:  Both boys are on the swim team.  They swim two mornings and two evenings a week, but it hardly cuts into our day at all. We spend a few hours at the pool most afternoons regardless.  Saturday is the first swim meet of the season, and far across town first thing in the morning.  Hopefully it will go swimmingly!

Wrapping paper or gift bags? My mom, SIL and Sister MD have sewn gift bags for years with holiday remnant fabrics they find after Christmas.  We have bags now that can hold earrings or huge Lego sets and we simply fold them up and each take a few home for the next year.  They're wonderfully colorful and festive and so easy to use, plus of course "green".
